Trendsetters In The Business World
by Marie Medsker Like a beacon on a hill, the words stand out for all passersby to see. One need not visit the nation's capitol just to get a glimpse of our national motto, the one every red-blooded American knows by heart. These hallowed words "In God We Trust" and "One Nation Under God" can be viewed by anyone in our fair city who happens to be driving along South Main Street in Searcy. The beautiful Haymond-James Insurance building is located at the corner of Market and South Main St. Its owner, Ralph Haymond, knew exactly what he wanted on the facade. Mr. Haymond said, "I see people every day that are smarter and work harder than I work. At every turn in my life, God has blessed me. This is true not only in my business, but in my personal life as well. The motto was placed on the building to praise God for those blessings." The words are a bold and moving tribute to Almighty God. They are also an encouragement to those of us who believe in and seek Divine Protection for ourselves, our families, and our nation. The national motto simply says, "In God We Trust." It is printed on every piece of currency produced in this country. In a time when many are working to remove the very mention of God from our public life, these words are proven to be legally sound, since they were officially adopted by Congress in 1956. The American Family Association has launched a national campaign to place before our children a copy of the official motto of the United States. It is aptly named, "In God We Trust Poster Campaign." Wouldn't it be great to have our national motto in every class-room of every public school in America? And wouldn't it say something good for our town if every business would be willing to display this poster? The message that our national motto conveys can be far-reaching and powerful! Most importantly, the hope is that the poster will be a reminder of the historic centrality of God in the life of our republic. Searcy Living Magazine is hoping to continue the trend that Haymond-James began in White County. Searcy Living is offering the "In God We Trust" posters from The American Family Association free of charge. Several Searcy business leaders have already placed the colorful posters in their office windows. Won't you join us in getting out the word that "In God We Trust" is more than a motto? It is a creed upon which we can build our lives. Call Searcy Living at 368-0095 for a free poster to put in your favorite business. |
