by R.J. Taylor For well over a year, neighbors have been talking about the gas wells popping up around the county. Media outlets are booming with information for county residents and town hall meetings have occurred at various times. But what do these new residents think about us? Two representatives of Chesapeake Oil Company, the third largest producer of natural gas in the United States, give Searcy and other White Countians high marks for helpfulness and friendliness. Their company has leased land to drill for gas in the county and is making an impact on the economy in our area. Mark Bottrell, Chesapeake’s field superintendent for Eastern Oklahoma and all of Arkansas, comes to Searcy often, and he likes our city. He is especially impressed by the people that he has met. “We’ve been very well received,” he said. “The business leaders welcomed us. Bill Haynie (of Haynie Utility Construction) introduced us to the people we needed to know. And his wife also helped.” Bottrell said that he has received valuable help from Buck Layne, the president of the Chamber, and his staff. Layne told Searcy Living that Bottrell is a good corporate citizen who has joined the Searcy Chamber and has made a donation to the Center on the Square. Previous Article |
