NATIONAL TREASURE: BOOK OF SECRETS

After the suprising success of the first film, Nick Cage and company are back for the second installment of the “National Treasure” series. In the new film, “Book of Secrets,” Ben Gates (Cage) is on a quest to clear his family’s name after his ancestor is accused of aiding in the assasination of President Abraham Lincoln. If Gates is involved, that means there is a treasure to be found, and this adventure is no different. Similar to the first movie, there is a “bad guy” following in Gate’s footsteps waiting to take the treasure for himself as Cage’s character does all the work. In terms of suspense and surprises, you won’t find a lot in this film, especially if you have seen the first installment. But all the same ingredients that made the first film great are back in the sequel. Justin Bartha is back as the comic-relief sidekick “Riley Poole,” Cage’s on- screen love interest “Abigail Chase” is once again played by Diane Kruger, and Jon Voight returns as Cage’s father. If you enjoyed the first movie, you will love the sequel, if you disliked the first, you will more than likely dislike the second. Great family film, I give it 4 1/2 Stars.
