HEALTH WITH DR. KAMERMAN
Live well, lest you die.

People are complex beings. We have a spiritual nature, mental/emotional nature, structural nature, and a chemical nature. I love studying about this wonderful creation: the human body. A couple of years ago my wife bought me a couple of novels in hopes that I would expand my horizons and read a relaxing book. They’re buried on the shelf somewhere; I think I’ll read them when I retire. For now, I enjoy studying about the human body. I have spent the last 20 years of practice studying the thoughts and writings of medical doctors, chiropractors, naturopaths, massage therapists, nutritionists, acupuncturists, and everyone in between. I have long ago found that no single profession has a monopoly on health and healing, but each one has a valuable contribution to the process. This is evident by the writings of nutritionist Joann Fontenot. She wrote, “Medical diseases are not the cruel hand of fate striking at random, but are the direct result of a cause.” There are two axioms of health that she mentioned. Number one, “Any day that a person burns up more energy than he assimilates from his food that is the very first day of illness.” Number two, “We do not live from the food that we eat, but from the energy created from the food we eat.” At first this seems very simple and we pass it off. Yet when we break down those two points, we find some very important knowledge that just might save your health or even your life.

What is the difference whether it is the food itself or the energy created from the food? Here is where many have missed the mark. As she further states, if we just live off the food, then any food “might be just as good as any other food.” Diet then would be rather insignificant and we could eat anything we want. Oh how I wish she was wrong. I wish she was just some weirdo nut nutritionist that didn’t have the correct data or knowledge. Don’t you just love it when you drink a coke or Dr. Pepper and the liquid hits your tongue with that sugar and it tastes so great and then the little fizzy burn down your throat is so wonderful? How about that piece of Hershey bar or Snickers that seems like a little bit of heaven as it melts in your mouth? Shouldn’t it be declared a sin if you go to the movie and can’t have popcorn? Especially the kind with extra “motor oil” as I call it, and an excess amount of salt? My tongue says, “Now this is living!” But later my body says that my tongue just lied to me. One of the things you will learn if you go very far in life is about this cause and effect, for every up there is a down, for every to there is a fro, and so on. There are some natural universal laws that the Creator has laid down. One is that you have choices. I have many times told people coming into my office that I am primarily a coach at one point and a cheerleader at another, but health is ultimately your responsibility. I have needed coaches and cheerleaders in the form of M.D.’s at different points in my life. However, no amount of recommendations, advice, or urging is sufficient until we also take action. Next, it doesn’t matter if you are ignorant of these laws, you can still be a victim of them if you don’t learn them. Sometimes we suffer from the neglect of previous generations that have been ignorant or just ignored these universal laws. Before you judge the previous generations, realize you’re probably passing down some of those bad habits to your own children. However, out of some of the sickest people have come some remarkable healers that have taught us well. Dr. Bernard Jensen, in perfect health at 71, was given up to die of black lung disease at the age of 20. Dr. John R. Christopher, common master herbalist, was born with rheumatoid arthritis and had a painful road back to health, then helped thousands of others. Did I mention before that I wish Joann was wrong? There’s no bondage in following God’s universal laws, just relief from sickness, disease, and pain. I’ve given up soft drinks for water. I still miss that tingle on the throat and my tongue misses that sugar rush, but the water sure makes me feel better. There are times that I’m more serious about what I eat or drink than others and I’m sure that’s the way it will be throughout the rest of my life. Hosea 4:6 says, “My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge...” So, some of the knowledge I’ve gained from 20 years of continued study I pass on to you in hopes that you too will gain knowledge. And remember, if you ever need a coach or cheerleader, my door is always open.
