WINKLER TO HEAD UP WHITE COUNTY HEALTH DEPARTMENT

Susan B. Winkler, M.S., has been appointed as the Arkansas Department of Health Local Health Unit Administrator for White County, with locations in both Searcy and Beebe, according to Bill Farris, Northeast Region Director. She assumed the duties of the office on September 22nd.

"I feel we are fortunate to have Susan move into this critical leadership position," Farris noted. She has served the Arkansas Department of Health for over 16 years as a WIC Program home economist, nutrition education coordinator and training coordinator. She has traveled within the state and outside Arkansas extensively while working with the Department. Susan is currently serving as Project Coordinator for the Central Region/WIC Promotora Pilot Project, a Hispanic outreach program based in Southwest Little Rock. She has undergraduate degrees from Arkansas State University, Jonesboro, Arkansas; and Northeastern State University, Tahlequah, Oklahoma; and a graduate degree from the University of Central Arkansas, Conway, Arkansas. Susan also graduated from the Arkansas Academy for Public Health Leadership through the Department of Health in 2005.

Winkler has served the Arkansas Association of Family & Consumer Sciences as Awards Chair, President-Elect, President and Counselor, is a member of the Arkansas Public Health Association, Arkansas State Employees Association, and is a former certified lay speaker for the Arkansas United Methodist Church. She has served the North Central District of the Arkansas United Methodist Women as President, will be an officer for 2009, and has served as a local officer for United Methodist Women for her home church in Des Arc.

Winkler is a 1972 Des Arc High School graduate, and the daughter of Sue K. Berry and the late A.L. Berry.
