MEMORIAL ERECTED TO HONOR MICAH RINE PATE

SEARCY, Ark. ⎯ Family and friends of Micah Rine Pate gathered at Camp Tahkodah in Floral, Ark., on June 20 to honor the memory of the Harding University graduate who died tragically on April 30 in Bartlett, Tenn. A bell and gazebo were dedicated to her memory.

Zeta Rho, the social club to which Pate belonged during college, along with men's social club TNT, approached the camp about creating a memorial for her onsite. The camp's old bell was recently stolen, and community friends donated a new one in Pate's honor. The social clubs joined together and raised money to build a tower for the bell and a gazebo.

Dennis and Terri Rine ring the bell for the first time.

Pate grew up spending summers at the camp and was also a counselor there during college. Randy Lambeth served as camp director during that time.

"Dennis and Terri shared their greatest treasure with me in the form of their daughter, and I feel like she was a part mine," says Lambeth. "God made her very special and sent her to the campers and staff at Tahkodah. Her spirt will live on in all she touched at camp."

Pate's father, Dennis Rine, shared memories of his daughter and also spoke about her devotion to God. Campers gathered around the bell and sang devotional songs with the family. Rine and his wife, Terri, rang the bell for the first time following the dedication by camp director Ross Cochran.

The bell tower and gazebo were designed by Bode Teague of Harding Academy. The gazebo has enough seating for small camp meetings and devotions, and the bell will be used daily to announce events and activity changes.

A plaque mounted below the bell reads, "In memory of our friend and sister Micah," along with a scripture from 1 Thessalonians 1:8: "Now the word of the Lord is ringing out to people everywhere."

Camp Tahkodah is a Christian based summer camp located on a 1,350-acre site in the Ozark Mountains.
