SEARCY, AR--Because the hope for a cancer-free future is the dream for our children, the American Cancer Society is organizing a Relay For Life fund raiser showcasing area children.

The nonprofit organization is hosting a child's photo contest and essay contest fundraiser to support Relay For Life beginning March 1st. The winning contestants will be featured on the cover of Searcy Living Magazine and also on the front page of the Daily Citizen in August of 2010.

The photo contest is open to children ages 12 and under living in White County. The essay contest is open to children ages 18 and under in White County. Entries will be accepted from March 1 through July 2nd. Entry forms can be found at http://www.relayforlife.org/whitear. There is a $20 entry fee per child for the photo contest and no fee for the essay contest, but a $10 donation would be appreciated.

Friends, family and community members are encouraged to "vote" for their favorite photos online starting on March 1st and ending on July 9th. Each dollar donation logged on the site for the voter's favorite photograph will be counted as 1 vote. All donations will benefit the Relay For Life of the entrant's choice.

The four photos with the highest number of "votes" after the winner will also be featured in the publications, and the top vote recipient will receive the cover shot and front page. The top essay winner will be featured in a special edition tabloid of the Daily Citizen, along with nine others that will be published throughout.

Relay For Life is an overnight fund-raising event filled with activities, food and community spirit. "Every penny, dime and dollar raised at Relay For Life offers hope to everyone who has been or will be touched by this disease, and brings us one step closer to a cancer-free tomorrow," said Miranda Reynolds, Development Representative for the American Cancer Society.
