PARENTS FOR A SAFE PROM

Greetings from the volunteers of "Parents for a Safe Prom!" Prom is just around the corner and we are asking for your help.

Did you know that according to the U.S. Department of Transportation, on a typical prom weekend 48 American teenagers will be killed in vehicle crashes, with 5,202 injured and 40 percent of the deaths alcohol related?

As concerned parents, we are determined our kids will not become statistics. Although the Searcy High School Prom is alcohol-free, problems arise when students drive to Little Rock for dinner prior to the Prom and then return to Searcy. They stay at the dance for a few minutes for pictures and then leave again to attend parties held by others. The consensus of the kids is that the Prom is "boring" and there is more fun to be had elsewhere. This leaves the door open for too much driving, underage drinking and absolutely no school spirit.

To entice the students to arrive at the Prom early and stay until the end, we are helping stage this year's event, a New Orleans themed event- a prom which promises to be like no other we have seen in Searcy. Students will be encouraged to participate in games and events throughout the evening in order to win "money" which can later be spent at the end of the evening to purchase desirable prizes such as iPods, cameras and even college scholarships. During the event we will be giving away door prizes as well as providing great food and music.

We believe this plan will entice the students to have dinner locally, spend more money in the Searcy area and bring new life to a dying tradition. This is the time to rally the students and remind them what Lion pride is all about.

As a sponsor of the Prom you will be listed exclusively in the Prom program as well as on a large sign at the entrance of the school during the week of the event. You will be listed in The Daily Citizen as a sponsor who supports and cares for our kids, and you will be given a sign to display at your business letting the community know your level of participation.

Gold Sponsors will have the distinction of having the various games named after them giving the kids a constant reminder of your business and how much you care for the kids of our community.

The sponsorship levels are as follows:

Gold Sponsorship - $500
Purple Sponsorship - $250
Green Sponsorship - $125
