"My ankle injury had all but ended any kind of exercise for me. After three surgeries, my doctor told me that I would never able to run again. He did say that walking or riding a bike was permitted. I after buying my Catrike, I was able to begin to melt off some of the many pounds i had gained, while being off my feet for over twelve weeks. Though I have not lost many pounds, I can tell a big difference in the way I feel. It is also a very relaxing end to the day when you have a stressful job, as I do." - Scott Luter from Morrilton "I started cycling May 1. Just started riding the Searcy Bike Trail initially then began working on a book project The Delta Revisited in mid summer, riding throughout the Mississippi Delta. Since May 1 I have lost 35 lbs, blood pressure has dropped from Stage 1 Hypertension: 140/90 to 122/80, Cholesterol levels are good with no medication after being high for several years. Recently I had a complete health screening done and received a "clean bill of health." I attribute it all to bike riding. You can ride just about anytime, anywhere, at any age, at any speed or intensity you want to go. There is very little cost or preparation required. Bicycling will not risk injuring your body the way running, weightlifting or many other activities can (just wear a helmet!). It is much more fun and interesting to me than running a treadmill or other indoor aerobic activity because you can get outdoors and enjoy the scenery. I have been a bicycler since I was a child and plan to continue the rest of my life for health and fun." -Patrick Roberts from Searcy "I bought my first bike from Wal-Mart four years ago and sadly rode it for only a year. When you guys went into the bike business, I bought my first good bike. I rode the bike for the next year and a half. I bought the recumbent trike and rode it 6 days a week from Kensett to West Point and back to Kensett. As to date I've lost 60 lbs. Have not had to take an insulin shot since January this year. P.s. I am also good looking. Ha, and I am also 73 years old." - Martin Palmer from Kensett "I became a 56 year old grandfather in August. Up until then I have really not taken my health seriously. I stayed semi active by walking, officiating high school football, playing golf, and riding a bike occasionally. But when my grandson was born in August I made a commitment to myself to be healthier so I could enjoy watching choice of activity. I have logged nearly 2000 miles since then and have set a goal of 5000 miles for 2010. I have lost 16 pounds so far. My cholesterol has dropped from 230 to 190, and my resting heart rate has dropped from 78 to 61. Cycling has helped me focus on healthier eating habits that I hope leads to more weight loss in 2010." - Gary Marshall from Searcy "I lost 35 pounds and 4 inches off my waist size due to bike riding....helps to improve your health by losing excess weight..makes you feel better and it's not that strenuous to do. Only thing I can add at present is that riding bikes is good exercise and helps you to lose weight and feel better...I modified my diet a little and started riding the bike this past summer and lost 35 pounds..still probably don't look pretty, but i feel better riding and losing weight." - Roger Thompson from Kensett "Over the summers of 2007 and 2008, I lost 15 lbs each of those summers (put it back on the following Thanksgivings and Christmases). This summer, I didn't lose as much weight, partly because I didn't put on as much since I cycled all of last winter. I'd never ridden 100 miles before until this year. I've seen deer, rabbits, foxes, turkeys, raccoons on normal days of riding through the country. And I think I catch fewer colds, and when I do catch one, they don't seem to hit me as hard. I don't know - I just like it and feel better and enjoy riding a bike. I ride to work on Fridays (jeans day at work) , so if I do that for 5 Friday's, I've saved one week's worth of driving my truck to work." - Mike Hendricks from Searcy Read More SL2 Articles Go to SearcyLiving.com |
