 A PROCLAMATION Wheras, child abuse is a complex and ongoing problem in our society, affecting great numbers of children in Searcy; and Whereas, every child is entitled to be loved, cared for, nurtured, secure to be free from verbal, sexual, emotional and physical abuse and neglect; and Whereas, Searcy faces a continuing need to support community-based programs to prevent child abuse and neglect, because prevention is the best defense for our children; and Whereas, it is the responsibility of every adult who comes in contact with a child to protect that child's inalienable right to a safe nurturing childhood; and Whereas, Searcy has dedicated individuals and organizations who work daily to counter the problem of child abuse and neglect and to help parents obtain the assistance they need; and Whereas, Searcy is stronger when all citizens become aware of child abuse and neglect prevention and become involved in supporting parents to raise their children in a safe, nurturing environment; and Whereas, Searcy residents celebrate children, this city's greatest resource and the community leaders of tomorrow; Therefore, I Belinda LaForce by virtue of the authority vested in me as Mayor of the City of Searcy, do hereby proclaim April 2009 to be Child Abuse and Neglect Prevention Month.
