PUBLISHER'S NOTE
August+September 2007

I think magazines are in a media class of their own. You develop a relationship with your magazine. You have favorite columns, favorite writers, and you become familiar with the style or niche of the publication. It has always been a goal of mine to connect with you, the reader, not just on the fun issues, but also on the charitable causes, get to know your neighbor articles, inspiration, and serious issues that you won’t likely read about in the main stream media. Serious stuff you need to know that I feel is SLM’s responsibility as a media outlet to inform you of. Now in this issue, it’s time to “Celebrate Life.” You will find stories in this issue that are heartwarming, inspiring, sad, and fascinating.

Two years ago we debuted our first ‘Celebrate Life’ issue. During the research for that issue, I uncovered information that was absolutely disgusting. A pro-death mind-set not openly talked about in our society that is sugar coated with words such as ‘choice’ and ‘rights.’ I discovered and continue to see how the weakest, most vulnerable members of our society are all but forgotten.

This issue is not meant to judge or discourage. It is meant to inspire, encourage, inform and educate. It is also full of resources that make it simple for you to make a difference in our community. It is a journey of empowerment to seek the truth. A journey to Celebrate Life.

When you were born,
you cried and the world rejoiced.
Live your life so that when you die,
the world cries and you rejoice.
