Christ Temple Holiness Celebrates 100th Anniversary

The Christ Temple Holiness Church family will celebrate their 100th Church Anniversary on Sunday, August 22, 2010 at 3:00 p.m. Rev. David Mosby, pastor of Grace Missionary Baptist Church of Meridian, Mississippi, will be the guest speaker for this event.

Elder Robert N. Nichols, who in August of 2009, was assigned as pastor of Christ Temple, one of the oldest churches within the Church of Christ (Holiness) U. S. A. movement. Elder Nichols marks this to be such an exciting time for him personally to serve as pastor of this great church, and humbling experience to be a part of the COCHUSA legacy.

The Church of Christ (Holiness) in the United States, which was founded in 1896 by Bishop Charles Price Jones, who was also a prolific hymnist, is divided into eight dioceses - Eastern, North Central, Northern, Pacific North West, South Central, South Eastern, South Western, and Western. In 2009 the Church of Christ (Holiness) had 12,600 members in 142 congregations in the United States, the Dominican Republic and Africa. Christ Temple Searcy is a part of what we endearingly call “The Great” Southwestern Diocese where Bishop Vernon E. Kennebrew is the Presiding Bishop and also President of the Church of Christ (Holiness), U. S. A. denomination.

The eldest member of the church is Sister Ellen Turner, wife of the late Deacon Ed Turner, has served faithfully both the church, as well the Searcy community with an unwavering spirit of excellence. The congregation of Christ Temple also honors her for her leadership.

Other events that will take place as a part of this celebration will be the Homecoming Picnic on Saturday, August 21st, from 11:00 until 2:00 p.m. which is open to the community; homecoming worship service which will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Sunday, August 22nd; and culminate with the special 100th Anniversary Worship Service at 3:00 p.m. on August 22nd.

Pastor Nichols and the congregation of Christ Temple’s focus throughout these events will be to celebrate the goodness and faithfulness of God to the Christ Temple family over the past 100 years. We are indeed a church that celebrates its past, serves its present, and look forward with great hope to serving in the future.
