Mark Wills to Perform

Searcy, AR- Nashville recording artist Mark Wills will be performing at Main Street Searcy’s annual Get Down Downtown festival on Saturday, September 25. Organizers are getting ready for another big weekend for the 2010 event, and with Wills headlining, it is sure to produce a record setting crowd.

Get Down Downtown is a two-day, free-admission event featuring musicians, artists, and vendors from throughout the Mid-South. This year’s festival will be held on September 24-25 in the downtown and Spring Park areas in Searcy.

Wills, a multi-platinum selling country star, has scored 8 top 10 hits and has made a name for himself as the gifted interpreter of such tender sentiments as “Wish You Were Here” and “Don’t Laugh at Me.”

The country legend found both personal and professional success in Georgia’s capital city. He adopted his stage name because there was another country singer names “Williams” in Atlanta. He then became the “house” entertainer for five years at the famed Buckboard nightclub, where he met his wife Kelly. They married in 1996, which was the same year that they upbeat “Jacob’s Ladder” jump-started his country career. His 1998 album “Wish You Were Here” went platinum and “Permanently” (2000) then went gold.

In 1999, Wills took home the Academy of Country Music’s coveted award for Top New Male Vocalist. Other career highs for Wills include numerous nominations from the Country Music Association, military appearances in Afghanistan, Iraq and Korea, and his hit single “19 Somethin’” spending six weeks as No.1 on the charts.

”I still love all those songs, and they are a true representation of a major part of who I am. They’re great songs that I’m very proud of,” Wills said. His award winning song “Don’t Laugh at Me”, is still a crowd favorite with its heartfelt message of tolerance and charity.

“I’m looking forward to getting back on the road, playing for the fans and putting this music out there. That’s all I’ve ever wanted to do since I picked up my first guitar.” Wills said.

Other songs to look forward to hearing at Get Down Downtown on Saturday, September 25, are “Places I’ve Never Been”, “I Do (Cherish You)”, and “She’s In Love.”
