23 Years of Service

Larry Johnson Pastor of the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church in Bald Knob Arkansas and his wife Patricia Johnson celebrated 23 years of service on Sunday March 6th, 2011; and in honor of this day the Prodigal Daughter’s a ministry group from the McPherson Women’s Prison unit in Newport, Arkansas was allowed to come and minister and give testimony of God’s grace and mercy. One of the ladies has been incarcerated over 34 years. The Prodigal Daughter’s also presented to Pastor Johnson and to his surprise a plaque celebrating 11 years of service to the prison ministry offering words of inspiration from the Lord. Pastor Johnson has a heart for prison and jail ministry and community.

Pastor Johnson was the first minister allowed to bring a camera into the Grime’s Prison (the men’s prison unit in Newport, AR) and film the service were approximately 175 men were in attendance and over 20 of these men gave their lives to the Lord.

The Jail ministry at pleasant Grove attends services at the White Co Detention Center at least once a month. Pastor Johnson has a Bus Ministry that sends 2 vans to the Augusta Arkansas area weekly for Wednesday night bible study and has at least 100 children in attendance. A hot meal is prepared each Wednesday night for everyone in attendance.

He has a Food Pantry at the church that provides food for anyone in need in the local and surrounding communities. He has a drug ministry that reaches the White Country and Woodruff County areas on a weekly basis.

He has a children’s summer program yearly called the Summer Activity for Children (SACK), which is provided for a minimal fee. The children are provided fun activities, hot meals, and academic tutoring to help children achieve their highest academic achievement. There is also the yearly Easter Parade going into its 4th year being celebrated on April the 23rd of 2011. The parade will be in two locations. The first parade is in Augusta, AR starting at 10:00a.m and ending at 11:00a.m and the second parade will be in Bald Knob, AR starting at 12:30p.m and ending at 1:30p.m; and best of all the Resurrection Party that will follow the Bald Knob paraded for food, music, fun and fellowship. The parades are will attended and growing each year.

Lastly, Pastor Johnson is also on various boards within the local and surrounding communities because of his willingness to help his fellowmen. He is admired and respected by many.
